Bad Things Happen
If God Exists, why does he allow bad things to happen? When talking to someone who doesn't believe in God, it's common for them to say that God is cruel because He allows terrible things to happen, such as the death of innocent children or even worse. The truth is bad things do happen in this world because of humanity's free will and the fallen state of our world due to sin. Sin and death entered the world when Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden and ate from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.![]()
God gave us free will because He desires us to choose and love Him willingly, not forced or programmed like robots. Unfortunately, with free will comes the possibility of making bad choices that can have consequences for ourselves and others. And even though God does allow suffering and evil in this world, He also provides comfort and strength to endure it.
God never intended for us to get sick, die, or face terrible situations. However, humans are free to make choices, even ones that harm others. Those who choose to harm others will face punishment on Judgment Day.
Although we sometimes make decisions that are not in our best interest or the interests of those around us, God has not abandoned us. He sent His son, Jesus Christ, to bear our sins and sufferings on the cross, giving us eternal life and hope even while suffering.
Think about this: if there's no God, there's no Satan. So, who do we blame when bad things happen? Is it just chance and randomness? Are these unfortunate occurrences just a natural part of how things evolved?
Sometimes, despite difficulties, God can work wonders and bring good out of bad situations. We may not always grasp the reason behind tragic events, but we can rest assured that God has a bigger plan and purpose for our lives.
The fact that there is evil and suffering in the world does not mean that God doesn't exist or that He doesn't profoundly love humanity. When we face difficult times, it's important to remember that God has given us free will, which means we have the choice to do good or evil. Sometimes, people choose to do evil things, and that's why there is suffering in the world. But this doesn't mean that God is absent or doesn't care. He cares so much that He sent His son, Jesus, to take on our pain and offer us eternal life. Even though we may not always understand why bad things happen, we can trust that God is always working for the good of those who love Him, as stated in Romans 8:28. The presence of evil doesn't prove that God doesn't exist; instead, it points us in the direction of our need for His grace, love, and redemption even more.
